Can An Art Student Study Nursing In Nigeria

school of nursing

Can an art student study nursing in Nigeria? This is one of the questions a lot of our site visitors are asking lately. At first, I was surprised, but then, I noticed it is actually a very nice question that needs a very beautiful and thoughtful answer.

So in this article, I will be answering this question and also other questions like, “can an engineering student”, “can a social science student”, and “can a life science student” study nursing in Nigeria.

This is because the question should not be limited to only Art students. Anyone can decide to ask the same question irrespective of the field.

There are two major reasons why a student would ask if an art student can study nursing in Nigeria:

  1. If they are mentally and academically capable of studying nursing.
  2. If they will or can be admitted into nursing.

In the first instance, being mentally and academically capable depends on the student. Because as an art student, you may be thinking seriously about your basic background knowledge. But the thing is, do you need too much foundational knowledge to study nursing in Nigeria? Let’s find out…

Nursing in itself will provide you with a background of science in some form. This is the basic truth. You don’t need to be all-knowing to study nursing in Nigeria.

Nursing is a science as much as it is an art. So can you study nursing without having to have a background in science? Yes, you can. Nursing will teach you some science you need.

But, can you study nursing without studying parts of science? Probably not. Do you understand what I am trying to say? Well, let me try to be more succinct.

If you don’t like science and its procedures, you can’t study nursing. But if you love science and you are willing to learn, then, you can study nursing without having to have any background or foundational knowledge.

In the second instance about if they will be admitted into nursing or not, now, here is what you need to know.

Every course in Nigeria has its minimum basic requirements that you must meet before you can be admitted to study the course.

This is same with studying nursing in Nigeria. Nursing has its basic requirements that you must meet before you can be given admission.

So, as an Art student who wants to study nursing in Nigeria, what are the basic nursing requirements needed?

This means the requirements are the same irrespective of the person applying.

Firstly, there are two major routes in Nigeria to study nursing. It is either you go through the school of nursing or you go through the university.

Each has its differences. If you go through the school of nursing, you will be award RN, RM etc. unless you choose to specialize.

However, if you go through the university, you will be given a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree.

Now you may what to know the major difference between a nurse that went through the school of nursing and the one that went through the university. Though, they are both referred to as nurses anyways.

However, if you know the major differences or the types of nursing degrees, you will be able to make an informed decision.
