JUPEB Cut-Off Marks For Admission Into 200 Level In Nigerian Universities

jupeb

JUPEB students and aspirants are always concern about the JUPEB cut off mark for all courses in Nigeria universities.

As a JUPEB student or aspirant, you should know that if you do not meet the cut off mark, you will not be admitted.

But then, there is something some students may not be aware of, less than 50% of JUPEB students that are offered admission are offered courses they didn’t choose.

This is because they did not meet the required cut off mark of the course that they initially intend to study.

In essence, getting admitted into 200L of your preferred institution shouldn’t be the only goal but getting your desired course.

JUPEB Cut-Off Marks

It is important we establish that the JUPEB cut off mark for each university is varies.

For instance, the cut off mark for medicine and surgery in Uniben is 15 points. If you score anything lesser than that, you will be offered a different course.

Most times what happens is that you won’t get your desired course. This is very dicey with the way it plays out.

For example, the cutoff mark of Pharmacy in Uniben is 12 points. So if you fill in for Medicine and Surgery which is 15 points and got 13 points, you would probably expect that you’ll be offered Pharmacy since you exceeded Pharmacy cutoff mark, but the truth is you won’t be given Pharmacy.

It doesn’t work like that.

You will be offered one of the life science courses, agric courses or education courses.

That’s how it works.

JUPEB Cut-Off Marks and Admission

You would think that it is not fair for UNIBEN to offer you a course that is not Pharmacy.

This is because you exceeded the JUPEB Pharmacy Cut-off Mark, even though you applied for Medicine.

Well, that is not how it works.

Over the years, universities found that less than 50% of students given differents courses accept the admission.

This is why universities decided to offer admission to students who choose a particular course than students who didn’t but exceeded the cut off mark.

Now, you will agree with me that it is very fair.

Instead of offering admission to someone that will not accept the admission, you better offer it to someone who chooses the course initially.

So that is how to works.

Two Major Factors Affecting JUPEB Admission

There are several factors affecting JUPEB admission.

From the example above, at least, you can see one reason why someone wasn’t offered Pharmacy.

Now let’s see two other factors responsible.

  1. The number of students the department wants: A department that wants 10 JUPEB Students, can’t take more. Then, it won’t matter if you get the required cut off mark, it now matters the number of students that got this cut off point. This is why it is very advisable to strive for 15 points no matter your desired course.
  2. Not meeting the cut off mark: You won’t be offered admission if you do not meet the required cut off mark.

JUPEB Cut Off Marks For Courses  For Admission In Nigeria

Now, as I have stated above, the JUPEB cut off mark is different for university to university.

Like a lot of universities can accept as low as 12 points for medicine.

But that is not possible with schools like UNIBEN, UNILAG etc

Also, before you can be considered for admission into OAU through JUPEB, you must score at least 9 points.

However, there are several universities that will offer you admission with just 5 points.

So you see, it is very relative and peculiar to your chosen institution.

Private schools in Nigeria accept 12 points for medicine.

Now, let’s see the average JUPEB cut off mark for different courses.

JUPEB Cut Off Marks For Courses

  1. JUPEB cut off marks points for any science, paramedical, the administrative course is 10 points and above. Not true for all universities, especially private universities.
  2. For Medicine, students must have at least 12 points and above to gain admission to study Medicine. Though, schools like UNIBEN won’t accept anything less than 15points, UNILAG can accept 14 points above. OAU on the other hand can accept 13 points above. It just depends on the school.
  3. The JUPEB cut off marks for Engineering courses, A/level Mathematics, Physics & Chemistry
for Industrial Chemistry is 9 points and above
  4. JUPEB cut off marks for Social Sciences/Administrative Courses is a minimum 7 points and above
  5. Candidates must have at least 6 points for Religious Studies, Languages, and most of the Courses in Arts Faculty and Agriculture. It depends on the school though.
  6. The cut-off marks for Law in JUPEB is 13 points. It also depends on the university and the two factors I listed above.

Do you know the jupeb cut off mark for medicine and surgery for 2019/2020? Can I get it with 14/15 points?

    • Progress says:

      Depends on the school, Favour.
      Uniben was 15 points.
      Unilag 14/15 points.
Some private schools took as low as 12 points.
It depends on the school. But you should always aim for 15 points to be on the safe side.
