Today, YouTube is the second-largest search engine in the world, next to Google. Statistics from this year show that the total number of people who are currently using YouTube is at 1,300,000,000.
However, before you dive into the process it’s important that you are aware of what will be required of you if you want to maximize your success.
Are you ready to learn 4 tips for starting a YouTube channel in the right way?
YouTube has allowed a lot of people to make a living filming content while accumulating a large audience of followers in the process.
However, there are a lot of misconceptions when it comes to starting a YouTube channel.
To be a successful YouTuber, all you need to do is throw up a few vlogs every month and all of a sudden millions of people want to subscribe to you and give you money, right? Not so much.
As someone who has been in the YouTube game for the last 7 years, I’m here to tell you that growing your channel has its fair share of challenges. I’m still learning to this day.
If you are a YouTube beginner, here are 4 tips that will help you grow your channel in the right way.
1. Be Consistent
When it comes to building a successful YouTube channel, consistency is key. Don’t strive for perfection. Rather, just put yourself out there. You don’t need fancy equipment when you are first starting out.
Recent reports have shown that YouTube channels that post more than once a week are performing much better and getting more recommended views than channels that post less often. If possible, I would suggest that you post videos at least 2–3 times per week.
This is especially important when you are in the beginning stages of growing your channel. By keeping your schedule consistent it inspires your viewers to keep coming back for more. Give people a reason to subscribe.
2. Optimize Your YouTube Content
You could have the best videos on YouTube, but if nobody can find your content, your efforts will have gone to waste. This is why it’s important that you take the time to search engine optimize all of your video content. This is what will allow people to discover you in the search rankings.
Google can’t physically watch your videos, which is why you need to provide them with as much information as possible about where they should rank your content.
There are a few key steps that you can take in order to make this possible.
- Include the primary keyword in the title, meta description, and video file.
- Write a long description that clearly describes the video and includes the primary keyword and variations of it. It’s also a good idea to add timestamps and links when appropriate.
- Use appropriate tags and make sure that they align with your brand and would be of interest to your audience.
- Choose eye-catching thumbnails that inspire viewers to open your video.
3. Collaborate With Other YouTubers
There are millions of content creators on YouTube today. Instead of competing, why not develop strong relationships and collaborate with them? In the past year, I’ve interviewed some of the top influencers in my niche.
Each collaboration effort expands my reach, giving me exposure to an entirely new audience. More importantly, those new viewers are more likely to subscribe to my channel, since I am working with someone that they already like and trust.
I encourage you to find content creators that align with your personal vision and values. By choosing the right person to collaborate with, your videos will be more engaging, which in turn, will inspire more people to watch them.
Finally, once your collaboration video is live, make sure that you promote your video across multiple social media channels.
4. Ask For Likes, Comments, and Shares
One of the best ways to promote your YouTube channel is to ask for engagement.
There is nothing wrong with asking your viewers if they will ‘like, comment and share’ your videos.
If you produce high-quality content that adds value to your audience, they will want to help you.
Never underestimate the power of YouTube.
Don’t get overwhelmed with the details. Just start. Put yourself out there, be your authentic self, create high-quality content and focus on adding value.
Doing so will allow you to develop a strong YouTube presence which can have a powerful impact on your brand, long-term.
